PUBLIC NOTICE

TIME RESET FOR PAYMENT OF PER CAPITA TAX BILLS

DUE TO THE DELAYED MAILING OF THE PER CAPITA TAX BILLS, THE
POTTSTOWN BOROUGH COUNCIL, AT ITS AUGUST 14, 2008 MEETING, VOTED TO EXTEND THE TIME ALLOWANCE FOR PAYMENT AS FOLLOWS:

2% DISCOUNT PERIOD  - AUGUST 9, 2008 – OCTOBER 8, 2008

NET PAYMENT PERIOD – OCTOBER 9, 2008 – DECEMBER 7, 2008

PENALTY PERIOD – DECEMBER 8, 2008 AND THEREAFTER

At the May 7th, 2008 Pottstown Borough Council Committee of the Whole work session, Greg Berry, Vice President of Council and newly appointed chairman of the borough's finance subcommittee, announced an initiative called "Fiscal Responsibility Pottstown." 

FiscalResponsibility.org fulfills part of one component of Fiscal Responsibility Pottstown which is to present clear reports that accurately depict borough finances on a regular basis.  Fiscal Responsibility Pottstown also includes the following components:

  • Explore ways to improve efficiency and productivity that will ultimately reduce costs
  • Highlight areas of potential cost savings
  • Identify items that could or should go out to bid or a request for proposal
  • Develop clear reports that accurately depict revenue, expenses and the overall financial picture of the borough
  • Develop a long term financial plan and look to available programs or organizations that can assist us with this
  • Work with the grants team to explore grant possibilities

FiscalResponsibility.org will include a wealth of information regarding the borough's finances and a method for the public to get more involved , including the following:

  • A Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) section, which will address questions that members of staff and council receive on a regular basis
  • A question submission form to submit questions to the finance subcomittee
  • A finance related suggestion box
  • General information on revenue and expenses
  • Audit reports from prior years
  • Easy to read quarterly updates on current year's budget vs. actual with explanations
  • Updates on grant opportunities
  • A schedule of finance related meetings such as the subcommittee meeting schedule and the budget review schedule
  • Plus additional information as it becomes available
  • Informal polls to obtain feedback from the public
